DayOne
Strengthens caregivers’ mental health at the point of child’s diagnosis
“DayOne” refers to the goal of supporting parents on post-diagnosis journey
500 caregiver-child pairs served as part of pilot run
Screen caregivers for mental health challenges at the emotionally-challenging point of their child’s diagnosis for developmental needs, with tiered intervention thereafter.
While Singapore has made advances in supporting children with developmental needs, comparatively lesser has been done for their caregivers.
Research shows that caregivers of children diagnosed with developmental needs are more likely to suffer mental health challenges, which can greatly affect the mental health of the developing child.
DayOne is a pilot to support this vulnerable group via screening and support at the right time and place by a team of psychiatrists, psychologists, medical social workers, paediatricians and nurses. Its unique care model is designed around the caregiver and child as a pair, not as individuals. Some components will be customised for fathers, to cater to the male learning style and promote a stronger support system within the family.
