NeuroPal: Providing more palliative support earlier for NNI patients
People with serious neurological diseases—like Parkinson’s, dementia, or ALS—face immense and fluctuating physical and emotional symptom burden. Yet they are far less likely to receive palliative care than those with cancer. With NeuroPal, palliative care is integrated earlier into a patient’s care journey, beginning with coordinated discussions across a multidisciplinary team of psychologists, occupational therapists, speech therapists and medical social workers, among others. After all, palliative care isn’t just for the end of life, but about easing suffering at any stage of disease. NeuroPal has already reached nearly 2,000 patients to date and aims to support over 3,600 patients annually by 2030. This initiative will also include neuropalliative training for healthcare professionals, through courses by Lien Centre for Palliative Care, and strengthening linkages with community partners including hospices.
